Pathways to Counselling with Ulli

Ulli provides counselling to those who wish to pay privately, or to those who are eligible for a rebate from Medicare through the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative. You need to visit your GP, who will develop a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) with you. Please bring the GP’s referral letter and the MHCP to the first session, and we can claim the medicare rebate electronically on your behalf, so that you receive it as quick as possible. Please note that you may need to pay the full fee privately if you do not bring your referral letter to the first session.

Ulli charges on a sliding scale based on income and circumstance. Her rates are listed below:

 Incom Per Annum
Regular rate:
(after $124.50 rebate from Medicare, this leaves
$70.20 out of pocket expense)
High income rate:
(after $124.50 rebate from Medicare, this leaves
$95.50 out of pocket expense)
Low income rate:
(after $124.50 rebate from Medicare, this leaves
$35.50 out of pocket expense)
Low Income Health Care Card and Pension Concession Card Holders, Full-Time students
Please bring the relevant card to your first session, or you may not be eligible for the reduced rate.

If you are not able to afford these rates, please get in touch with Jessica, our Office Manager, to discuss whether you might be eligible for counselling with another therapist through the Psychological Support Services (PSS) Scheme. You may also want to consider contacting one of the University Psychology Clinics, as they offer support for students and non-students at very low fees. If you need help with this, please let us know.

If you are not eligible for a MHCP, or have used all the sessions in your MHCP for this calendar year, you can seek or continue counselling and pay privately.

If you are seeing Ulli for private counselling and you have private health insurance, you may be able to receive a rebate from your private health insurer. However, this will depend on your insurance provider and your level of cover. If you would like to find out whether you may be able to get money back from your health insurance for seeing Ulli, you should contact your insurer directly. Please note that most insurers will not provide a rebate for counselling if you are also getting a rebate from Medicare with a MHCP.
